Directions:

Getting to Freeland on Whidbey Island

There are three ways to get to Whidbey Island:

  1. From the north (Anacortes/La Conner) across the Deception Pass Bridge
  2. From Seattle/Everett on the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry
  3. From the Olympic Peninsula on the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry.

Taking the Deception Pass Bridge (about 36.6 miles to Freeland)

  • Take WA-20 south toward Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Freeland.
  • Continue south as WA-20 becomes WA-525 south of Coupeville (don't follow WA-20 when it turns toward the Coupeville ferry).
  • Continue south on WA-525 to Freeland and follow the directions On-Island from the North below.

Taking the Mukilteo-Clinton Ferry

  • Take the ferry across Puget Sound to Clinton.
  • Automatically follow WA-525 north through Clinton and Bayview for about 10 miles to Freeland.
  • Follow the directions On-Island from the South below.

Taking the Port Townsend-Coupeville Ferry

  • Make a reservation on the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry – both directions if you'll be making a round trip.
  • Take the ferry from Port Townsend to the Coupeville ferry dock.
  • Turn right after exiting the ferry and follow WA-20 toward WA-525 as it curves for about 3.4 miles.
  • Turn right onto WA-525 and continue south for about 12.2 miles to Freeland.
  • Follow the directions On-Island from the North below.

Meeting Location:

GSSWI meets in Freeland at Trinity Lutheran Church in their Chapel & Community Building, the white building nearest WA-525. Note: Entry to the driveway/parking lot from WA-525 is only from the north. Exit from the driveway/parking lot onto WA-525 is only to the south.

On-Island from the North

  • Drive south on WA-525 to Woodard Road and prepare to turn right immediately after crossing the intersection.
  • The Chapel & Community Building is the white building at this corner on the right (see photos) Note: you cannot exit north on WA-525 reversing these directions.
  • To exit to WA-525 heading north, drive away from the highway and to the left around the new larger church building. Once you are past the church building, turn right to exit the parking lot onto Woodard Road.
  • Turn right onto Woodard Road and turn left onto WA-525 heading north.

On-Island from the South

  • Drive north on WA-525 past the traffic light at Main Street/Fish Road. Turn left onto Woodard Road just past the white Chapel & Community Building (see photos). There is a left turn lane at Woodard Road. Note: It is illegal to turn left into the parking lot in front of the church building.
  • The Trinity Lutheran Church sign and entrance driveway will be on the left about 0.2 miles from the turn off the highway.
  • Drive past the new, large church building and to the left, approaching the Chapel & Community Building near WA-525.
  • To exit to WA-525 heading south, simply turn right from the parking lot onto WA-525.
