Island County Cemetery Lists

A publication entitled Cemeteries of Island County, Washington, compiled and edited by Ralph L. Seefeld, is available. At 274 pages, it includes photos and maps. Burials are listed in order of location in each cemetery, and each cemetery is individually indexed. The information was gathered from the cemetery tombstones between 1998 and 2002. Each book describes the location of the cemetery and any historical information available about it. A list of names, dates and any other available information is provided for each known burial in the cemetery.

GSSWI requests a donation of $27.95 to cover printing and binding costs. Shipping is extra. There is no charge to have an electronic file of the publication sent to email.

Individual cemetery books are also available as listed below. An index of the names included in each list is available for cemeteries lists that are longer than two pages (click on the link to view the PDF index file). When you request individual books, please specify which book(s) you want. Shipping costs will be added to these amounts if needed.

Louis Frey's business, courtesy of Nancy
The business of Louis A. Frey in about 1910. Louis was just 19 years old in 1871 when his father died, leaving Louis to run the hotel that his father operated on Chicago's near north side. Four months later, the Chicago Fire roared through the neighborhood, presumably destroying the hotel. Louis moved with his mother to south Chicago and started a real estate and steamship ticket business, which became very successful. Louis (second from right) is shown here with his two daughters who worked for him and his new partner. The partner married the daughter on the left not long after this photo was taken.
